If you're guilty of mainlining fashion blogs, you already have an inkling that Zac Posen is somehow involved with "The Face." Well, Oxygen's senior vice president of original programming and development, Rod Aissa, just gave the official confirmation (yeah!) and he tells us that the designer's dramatic evening gowns will be showcased in an amazing part of the finale. Plus, we have even scoopier insider news that involves that Fashion Week slap heard around the world.
Fashion peeps have been speculating about the designer's appearance on the show since New York Fashion Week last September when Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha made a surprise appearance in the lineup of Posen's Spring/Summer 2013 runway show at Lincoln Center.
"Naomi knew that he was having his fashion show during Fashion Week and she’s very close with him," Aissa told me. "We were looking to have a big moment that could kick off our show, so Naomi talked to Zac about having her, Karolina and Coco walk in his fashion show."
"Zac already had his fashion show planned," he continued. "We came in late and he was awesome because we kind of really infiltrated his fashion show, which started as a normal regular Zac Posen fashion show [and] became a TV thing."
"He was so awesome," Aissa said with a smile. "He came to our wrap party. I think he’s a real cast member of "The Face," which is really cool."
But back to the runway show. So you'd think that the world's biggest supermodel opening, the most famous Victoria's Secret angel walking and the modeling world's It Girl closing would be the bombshell that made the headlines, right? But the Zac Posen show hit an unprecedented note when seating delays angered a belligerent French editor who ended up slapping a publicist in the face! (And yes, the PR is suing.)
So I'm putting two and two together—film crews, seating delays—did "The Face" have anything to do with the scandalous fisticuffs?
"I believe some seats had to be moved due to filming," Aissa admitted. "So that created a different seating scenario for them ... so I think that’s what happened."
And did he actually witness the scuffle?! Well, yes and he does actually have experience with, uh, ladies who like to mix it up here and there.
"Awwww.. 'Bad Girls Club'," Aissa laughed, likening the scenario with Oxygen's infamous reality program. "But with this French woman and her daughter. I remember thinking, wow, they get down at these fashion shows. Who knew? We’re at Lincoln Center. I expected champagne and strawberries and stuff."
Sounds like a good omen to us. Tune in this February to see our trifecta of supermodels, Nigel, Zac Posen and lots of drama.
