While you were busy watching "The Fight to Make the Final 12" elimination special tonight, Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha, Karolina Kurkova and Nigel Barker were mixing and mingling with their bold name friends and groovin' to the sounds of a live choir belting out a 90s classic (more on that in a bit) at the "The Face" launch party in New York City. Early bird Nigel was the first to hit the
red yellow carpet and the host happily walked the press line despite the freezing 20 degree temps outside.
"No, dammit, why was I the first?" Nigel joked as I pointed out his prompt arrival. "I’m gonna fire my PR, what am I doing here being the first?!"
He led the procession of fashiony celebs that included designer Monika Chiang (who was pleasantly surprised to learn that a few of her designs make it into show), celeb stylist Brad Goreski, Bravo exec and Real Housewife wrangler Andy Cohen, hunky male model Tyson Beckford and Nigel's former "America's Next Top Model" colleague J. Alexander.
Daily Candy chief correspondent and tomorrow's Google+ Hangout moderator SuChin Pak was looking lovely in a belted floral mini-dress. So what is she dying to ask the supermodel coaches during the sesh?
"So many things!" she exclaimed.
"They [the coaches] all have such different viewpoints on fashion and the industry," she continuted. "And a lot of their viewpoints are diametrically opposed. So I’m curious to see how that plays out, like, who ultimately is right or maybe there are lots of different ways to play the game. So far what I’ve seen of has been quite inspirational and I didn’t expect that, so I'm excited to see how it all plays out."
(You can still RSVP to the Google+ Hangout, by the way. It's just like being at the party, minus drunk party guests spilling their champers on your dress, plus you can BYOB to this bash.)
Goof off partners in crime, Coco and Karolina somehow managed to hit the carpet at the same time and were so cute mugging for the cameras together, just like they did on the set of "The Face." They must have had a blast filming the show and from the sounds of things, the girls kept themselves entertained on a regular basis.
"Karolina loves to randomly sing in the most awkward moments," Coco said with a smile. "Those are probably some epic days. Some random times you’d be just kind of frustrated and, all of a sudden, she’ll sing 'The Hills are Alive With the Sound of Music' and you’re like, all right, that is today."
Coco looked beautiful in a Downton Abbey-glam beaded Pucci gown and Karolina showed off those legs in a fringed cobalt blue dress that barely covered a pair of hot pants. KK's dress was by a German designer who her husband Archie couldn't quite remember the name of—oh, men.
Big deal fashion icons, photographer Patrick Demarchelier, model Pat Cleveland, Vogue contributing editor and new late night TV show host André Leon Talley and friend of "The Face" Zac Posen also came to support the cast and say hello to old friends.
Finally, bringing up the rear, was the Queen of the Runway, Naomi Campbell. Of course, the legend knows how to make an entrance. She arrived to a storm of flashbulbs and shouts ("Naomi, Naomi, over here!") and looking intimidatingly stunning in a winter white Azzedine Alaïa (duh) gown and luxe Alexander McQueen coat, held by a handler waiting in the wings as she posed for photos.
With all the stars in attendance, the festivities began inside, starting off with Nigel walking out on a runway to the James Bond 007 theme song. Hey, he is British so that works, right? And apparently, that's been a dream of his, as he opened with the line, "I’m definitely feeling both shaken and stirred right now." Hmm ...
He introduced Coco, who showed off her signature dance moves on the balcony above the dancefloor to "She's Got the Look" by Prince. Then it was Karolina's turn as she worked her Victoria's Secret-proven sexy prance to the sounds of "Vogue" by Madonna. Completing the trifecta, music video veteran Naomi took the stage to "Freedom 90" by George Michael—appropriately, as she starred in that video along with fellow supes Linda Evangelista, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford.
But the grand finale was seriously major. A freakin' full-on choir came out from the wings singing the George Michael classic as the trio of coaches started moving and mouthing the words (or singing, maybe?) to the beat. The girls have rhythm, too. Not wanting to miss out, Nigel quickly sprinted up to the balcony to join in on the fun. And no, he and Coco did not dance next to each other, as Naomi was in the middle as a buffer to their awkward, lanky model dancing non-synergy.
Take a look at more party snaps below and bask in the music-backed togetherness until the premiere of "The Face" on Tue., Feb. 12 at 9/8c because then it'll be game on!
